What Happens When Jay’s Tow Truck Arrives?

Another day on the road with Jay’s Junk Car Towing. Every pickup is different, and having the right equipment helps move vehicles safely and efficiently across the Lower Mainland.

When Jay Arrives

When my tow truck arrives. I’ll give you a quick call or send a text to let you know I’m outside. While you’re making your way out, I’ll have a quick look at the vehicle so I’m ready to get started.

Some customers are already waiting outside, while others are finishing up around the house or at work. There is no rush. I like taking a minute to look over the vehicle before we begin.

Paperwork Before Loading

While we’re talking, I may already have the air hose on your flat tires so they’re ready to roll when it’s time to load the vehicle.

If the battery is dead, the brakes are locked, or the vehicle won’t go into neutral, I have the equipment and experience to handle it safely. Every junk car removal is different, and after more than 30 years in the business, very few situations surprise me.

A Burnaby Alley Pickup That Needed Planning

One junk car removal in Burnaby is a job I’ll always remember. The van was parked behind a fence in a narrow back lane. The last time it had been moved, part of the fence had to be removed just to get the vehicle out.

Before I even moved the tow truck, I spent a few minutes looking over the job and planning the safest approach. By carefully lining everything up and using the winch, I was able to remove the van without taking the fence apart again. That’s where experience makes the difference. Sometimes spending a few extra minutes planning saves a lot of time and prevents damage.

Some customers enjoy watching the tow truck work, while others head back inside or carry on with their day. I always smile because I think most of us were little kids once, and watching a tow truck load a vehicle is still interesting. If Ruby is riding along that day, you might even get to meet my little towing sidekick.

Before leaving, I’ll make one final check to make sure everything is complete before heading to an approved vehicle recycling facility in British Columbia.

My goal is simple. Arrive on time, answer your questions, remove your vehicle safely, and make the entire junk car removal process as easy and stress free as possible.

Questions I Get Asked Before Booking a Junk Car Removal

What Information Should I Have Ready Before I Call?

You don’t need to have every detail before you call. A quick phone conversation is usually all it takes for me to understand your vehicle and arrange a junk car removal that works for you.
I’ll ask for the year, make, and model, where the vehicle is located, whether it has the keys, if it rolls, and if any major parts are missing. If you’re not sure about something, don’t worry. We’ll go through it together over the phone.
Photos are always helpful because they let me see the condition of the vehicle and how it’s parked, but they’re not required. In most cases, I can give you a good idea of what to expect after just a few minutes on the phone.
The More Information You Have, the Better
If the vehicle is at a repair shop, parked in a tight driveway, or has flat tires or locked brakes, letting me know ahead of time helps me bring the right equipment and plan the safest way to remove it. Every junk car removal is a little different, and taking a few minutes to talk before the pickup makes the whole process smoother.
If you’re not sure whether your vehicle qualifies for free towing or what paperwork you’ll need, you’ll find more information on my What Documents You Need to Scrap a Car in BC page before your appointment.

What Paperwork Do I Need for Junk Car Removal?

Most junk car removals require proof that you own the vehicle. In most cases, that’s your vehicle registration. If you can’t find it, don’t panic. Give me a call before your appointment and I’ll explain what your options are.
Some customers like to have the paperwork completed before I arrive, especially if the registered owner won’t be there during the pickup. Others prefer to complete everything with me when I arrive. Either way works well.
I carry the paperwork needed for most junk car removals, including a vehicle transfer form and a scrap vehicle receipt. My goal is to make the paperwork as simple as the pickup.
Registration, Licence Plates and ICBC Information
If your vehicle is parked on the street, I usually recommend leaving the licence plates on until the vehicle is loaded. A vehicle without licence plates can sometimes attract unwanted attention or even be ticketed or towed before your scheduled pickup. Once the vehicle is safely on my truck, I can help remove the plates if needed. I carry the tools to remove rusted licence plate bolts, so don’t worry if they haven’t moved in years.
If you’re not sure what documents you’ll need, I’ve written a guide explaining What Documents You Need to Scrap a Car in BC. You can also download the official ICBC Transfer/Tax Form before your appointment or read ICBC’s vehicle transfer information if you’d like to have everything ready before I arrive.British Columbia vehicle registration used to complete junk car removal paperwork.

Can You Remove My Vehicle If It Won’t Start?

Yes. Many of the vehicles I remove no longer run because of a blown engine, transmission failure, dead battery, accident damage, or years of sitting. That’s a normal part of junk car removal, and it’s something I deal with almost every day.
Before I start loading, I’ll look over the vehicle and decide the safest way to remove it. Some vehicles roll onto the tow truck without any problems, while others need to be winched because the brakes are locked or the transmission won’t shift into neutral. Every junk car removal is a little different, and taking a few minutes to plan the job helps everything go smoothly.
Experience Makes the Difference
After more than 30 years of junk car removal across the Lower Mainland, I’ve removed vehicles from repair shops, driveways, farms, apartment parking lots, and many other locations. My goal is always the same: remove your vehicle safely while protecting your property and getting the job done right.
Many people call me because their vehicle has a blown engine, failed transmission, or another expensive mechanical problem. The good news is that your vehicle doesn’t have to be running to qualify for junk car removal.
If you’re wondering whether a non running vehicle can still be sold, you may find my guide Can I Sell a Car That Doesn’t Run Anymore? helpful before you call. It explains what happens when a vehicle no longer starts and why many owners decide recycling is the better option.Jay's Junk Car Towing winching a non running Toyota Sienna onto the tow truck in Surrey, BC.

Can You Remove Vehicles From Tight Driveways or Difficult Locations?

Yes. Over the years I’ve removed vehicles from narrow driveways, back lanes, farms, repair shops, apartment buildings, and many other difficult locations throughout the Lower Mainland. Every junk car removal is different, and that’s where experience makes the difference.
Before I start loading, I always take a few minutes to look over the job and plan the safest way to remove the vehicle. Sometimes the easiest looking job takes the longest, while a difficult looking pickup turns out to be straightforward. My goal is to protect your driveway, lawn, fence, and surrounding property while safely loading your vehicle onto the tow truck.
Experience Helps Make Difficult Pickups Easier
One pickup I remember involved a vehicle parked in a tight residential driveway with very little room to work. Before moving the tow truck, I looked over the driveway, checked the angle of the vehicle, and planned the safest loading method. Taking a few extra minutes at the beginning helped the entire junk car removal go smoothly.
Many people aren’t sure if their vehicle can be removed because of where it’s parked. A quick phone call lets me ask a few questions and explain the best way to handle your pickup before I arrive.Jay's Junk Car Towing preparing to remove a Honda Civic from a narrow residential driveway in the Lower Mainland.

Can Someone Else Arrange the Pickup?

Yes. I receive calls every week from sons, daughters, husbands, wives, friends, neighbours, repair shops, and executors helping someone remove a vehicle. As long as we know who owns the vehicle and have the paperwork sorted out, arranging a pickup is usually straightforward.
If the registered owner can’t be there, let me know when you call. I’ll explain what paperwork is needed before the appointment so there are no surprises when I arrive.
Estate Vehicles and Family Members
Helping families remove a loved one’s vehicle is something I take seriously. I understand that estate vehicle pickups are often part of a much bigger process, so I do my best to make the junk car removal simple and stress free.
